Role and tasks

The FVU Service Unit implements the targets and tasks set by the Advisory Board and the Executive Board of the FVU consortium. Its operations are steered by the Executive Board. The Service Unit operates as an independent institute under the Helsinki University of Technology in 2007-2012.

The tasks of the FVU Service Unit are to:

• conduct strategic planning virtual university activities according to the policy lines set out by the Advisory Board and the Executive Board
• develop FVU operations and management
• develop collaboration among universities in the field of educational information and communication technologies
• develop, produce and administer FVU online services
• develop and maintain nation-wide flexible study services
• develop and maintain joint university standards pertaining to teaching material information and course information and records
• draft and maintain joint agreements of the FVU consortium
• disseminate information on virtual university activities
• co-operate internationally with other virtual universities
• administer the trademarks and incorporeal rights of the virtual university
• prepare the agenda for the Executive Board meetings.
